Boiler replacement in London
Boiler replacement starts with understanding the property and why the existing boiler is being replaced. Loyal Plumbers handles planned heating projects across London and inside the M25. Whether your boiler has failed or you are changing the home, we assess the system before recommending equipment, installation work and the next booking step.

Enquire about this serviceRepair, replacement or a wider heating change?
A breakdown is a reason for diagnosis, not an automatic instruction to replace the boiler. A repair may remain sensible where the underlying condition is sound and the required part is available. Conversely, repeated faults, unsuitable output or a major change in household demand can justify considering replacement alongside repair.
Tell us what has failed, the approximate age and what previous visits have established. We can distinguish a boiler problem from faults in radiators, pipework or stored hot water controls. Replacing the appliance without addressing those issues risks leaving the original comfort complaint unresolved.
Choose around hot water demand and the building
A combi typically heats domestic hot water as it is drawn. A system or heat-only boiler can work with a separate hot water cylinder. The choice depends on available space, incoming supply and how the household uses water, rather than the number of bedrooms alone.
For a home with simultaneous showers, explain which outlets need to run together. For a smaller flat, cupboard space and the length of the pipe run to the bathroom may be more important. If you are planning a low-carbon heating change, raise that before ordering equipment so the proposal does not work against the longer-term plan.
What we inspect before specifying the installation
The survey considers heat demand, the existing distribution system, controls and the proposed boiler location. It also needs to establish the practical route for the flue and condensate, access for maintenance, and the condition of the surrounding installation. The installer must check the gas supply requirements for the selected appliance.
Flats and converted buildings can introduce permissions and access dependencies. Tell us about a shared flue, concealed sections, an external wall controlled by a freeholder, restricted parking or scaffold requirements. Photographs help prepare the visit, but cannot verify concealed routes or replace necessary on-site checks.
- Current boiler make, model and visible fault information.
- Whether hot water comes from a cylinder or directly from a combi.
- Planned extensions, extra bathrooms or changes of occupancy.
- Access restrictions and the person authorised to approve work.
Compare the whole proposal
The appliance price is only part of the project. A useful proposal identifies the boiler, controls, required pipe alterations, system preparation, flue work, removal of old equipment and commissioning. Ask what is excluded, particularly decorative repairs and access work, and how newly discovered defects will be authorised.
Existing radiators do not all need replacing simply because a boiler is new. Their suitability and the condition of system water should be assessed. Discuss any cleaning, filtration or remedial work on its actual findings, so each item has a clear reason rather than appearing as an unexplained package.
Qualified installation and records
Gas boiler work must be undertaken by an appropriately qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Check the engineer’s identity and relevant work categories, rather than relying solely on a logo in a quotation. HSE guidance distinguishes water-side heating work from work on the boiler and its final connections.
Before accepting the proposal, ask which commissioning documents and building-regulations notification records apply, who provides them and how any manufacturer warranty is registered. Warranty duration and servicing conditions depend on the actual product and arrangement; obtain those terms in writing rather than assuming a generic guarantee.
Plan the changeover and request a survey
We agree the expected heating and hot water interruption after the scope is understood. Let us know about tenants, business operating hours and occupants who need special arrangements. Complex relocations, changes of boiler type or remedial flue work can involve more dependencies than a replacement in the same position.
Use the enquiry form to send your postcode, boiler details and your reason for replacing it. Loyal Plumbers has 10 active vans and operates 24/7 across all London boroughs and inside the M25. This lets us discuss urgent loss of service separately from a planned installation appointment; it is not a guaranteed arrival or installation time.
Start with written details in the enquiry form. If photographs would help, the team can request them by email after your initial enquiry; the form does not accept image uploads. Only take photographs where access is safe.
Questions we get asked
- Can you quote from photographs?
- Photographs help establish the likely scope and prepare a survey. A final proposal may require measurements and checks of supply, flue access and the existing heating system.
- Should I change from a cylinder to a combi?
- Only after assessing hot water demand, incoming water supply and the installation changes involved. Removing storage is not automatically an improvement for a household using several outlets together.
- Does replacing a boiler fix cold radiators?
- It may help if the boiler is responsible, but circulation, valves, balancing or contamination can be separate causes. Include the radiator symptoms in your enquiry so they are investigated.
