A service for the cylinder, not only the boiler
A Megaflo service focuses on the stored hot-water installation. A separate boiler service does not automatically include the cylinder, its controls or safety components. We establish whether you need planned cylinder maintenance, investigation of a current fault or both before arranging the appointment.
Heatrae Sadia’s product guidance and model-specific instructions set out the maintenance requirements. Keep the previous service record available and tell us if the history is unknown. An apparently working cylinder can still need its scheduled checks, while a cylinder already discharging or overheating should not be treated as a routine service booking without discussing those symptoms.
Identify the Megaflo model and heat sources
Megaflo installations differ by model and heating arrangement. We check the accessible label and whether the cylinder is heated directly by immersion elements, indirectly from another source or through an arrangement with more than one heating function. That identification determines the relevant instructions and the checks to plan.
Provide details of any controls changed since the last visit and any new problem with recovery or temperature. A normal heating schedule on a wall programmer does not prove every connected function is working correctly. We review the cylinder in its actual installation rather than use one generic sequence for every product carrying the Megaflo name.
Check expansion according to the cylinder design
Some Megaflo models accommodate expansion through an internal air-gap arrangement rather than an external vessel. The manufacturer’s documentation identifies which design applies. We assess the installed arrangement and complete appropriate professional maintenance where required, instead of assuming an external vessel is missing or needs adding.
Dripping at a tundish can have more than one cause. Expansion condition, inlet controls and safety devices need consideration alongside the timing and character of the discharge. We explain when a service task is supported by the findings and when a failed component requires a separate repair. Repeatedly treating the symptom without establishing the cause leaves the original problem unresolved.
Review controls and safety-discharge arrangements
The service scope follows the selected model’s requirements for the relevant temperature controls, protective devices, inlet arrangement and discharge path. Access to these parts matters. A cupboard that permits viewing the cylinder label may still prevent a required check, so explain any boxing or shelving restrictions before attendance.
Safety devices and their outlets are not routine homeowner adjustment points. Do not open covers, operate relief valves or attempt to restore an air gap to prepare for our visit. Unvented-cylinder work requires the appropriate competence; electrical and any gas-appliance work require their own relevant safe working arrangements.
Separate maintenance from parts replacement
A service can identify worn or defective components but does not mean every possible replacement part is included. We explain the finding, the proposed repair and any model-specific part needed before additional work proceeds. If a fault lies in the separate boiler, primary circuit or an outlet, that scope is identified rather than hidden within cylinder maintenance.
A useful record states what was checked, what maintenance was completed and what remains outstanding. Where access or a separate defect prevents a check, the limitation should be clear. This gives owners and managing agents an actionable history and helps the next appointment address the actual remaining issue.
Arrange access and respond properly to urgent symptoms
For a planned service, clear ordinary stored items from the agreed working area if safe and provide previous records. In a managed building, confirm the keyholder and repair authorisation contact. The team can request photographs or paperwork by email after your enquiry; you do not need to dismantle anything to identify the installation.
If an unvented cylinder releases very hot water or steam, keep clear and stop its heating sources through normal accessible controls only if safe. Do not turn off its water supply as a generic overheating response and do not cap or adjust the discharge. Report dangerous overheating or forceful discharge urgently instead of waiting for a routine service slot.
Agree maintenance and repair charges separately
The booking scope identifies the model, heat sources and symptoms so routine servicing can be distinguished from fault investigation. Replacement components, difficult access or corrective work to the discharge installation can require a separate proposal. We explain the finding and the required work before adding a repair, and keep the service record clear about what was checked and what remains outstanding.
Book Megaflo servicing and keep the records
Send the postcode, visible model details, heating arrangement and last known service date. Include any dripping, pressure change, shortage of hot water or unusual temperature behaviour. This allows us to distinguish maintenance from a repair assessment and prepare for the actual cylinder rather than an assumed model.
Loyal Plumbers covers homes, landlords and commercial premises across London and inside the M25. At handover we explain the maintenance completed, follow-up recommendations and the servicing requirements relevant to the product. Keep the record with installation and warranty documents; manufacturer cover depends on its terms and is not extended automatically by a general plumbing invoice.
Common questions
Is servicing the boiler enough for my Megaflo?
No. The boiler and cylinder have distinct maintenance scopes. Both can be discussed in one enquiry, but the appointment must explicitly include the relevant tasks and records for each asset.
Will a service stop a dripping tundish?
It depends on the cause. Maintenance may address an expansion issue where appropriate, but a defective component or another fault can require repair. Describe the discharge when booking so it is assessed rather than assumed routine.
Should I recharge the air gap before the appointment?
Leave preparation to providing safe access and records. We identify the model and assess the expansion arrangement as part of the professional work. Do not manipulate valves or follow a procedure intended for a different cylinder.
