Water running without a break differs from a cistern repeatedly emptying or a sensor-triggered flush occurring too often. One bowl receiving water continuously can involve a different arrangement from an entire bank flushing together.

If water is overflowing or the drain is backing up, stop affected use and report that immediately. The flushing fault and drainage restriction may need separate attention. Identify the installed flushing arrangement

The assessment should compare the actual behaviour with the manufacturer’s instructions and the site’s documented arrangement.

If the pattern has recently changed, describe when that happened and what else changed nearby. New partitions, altered controls, electrical work or a repair can be relevant. Do not disable an intended function without the responsible person understanding its purpose. Changes should be suitable for the installation and recorded so later maintenance can identify the intended operation.

Water-control and detection faults require different repairs

A sensor may detect normally while a valve fails to stop water, or a control input may repeatedly call for flushing. The professional should assess the complete sequence rather than replace the visible sensor as a default. Where a cistern is involved, its filling and discharge arrangement also needs consideration.

Tell the contractor about indicators or sounds already observed, but leave technical tests to the appropriate person. Do not disconnect a cable, bridge a control or hold a valve shut as an improvised repair. Electrical supply work and plumbing valve work may require different competence, with the boundary identified before the appointment is treated as complete.

Plan access and temporary washroom use

Controls and valves may sit above ceilings, behind access panels or in a service cupboard. Arrange keys, safe working access and the authorised site contact. The repair needs a controlled area away from users. If the washroom is partially closed, the premises team should communicate which facilities remain available and any restrictions.

Agree how continuous flow will be controlled in the meantime using an appropriate method, rather than leaving the fitting unattended because a future appointment has been booked.

Check the intended cycle after repair

The completed work should verify the relevant activation and shut-off sequence, with any periodic functions understood. Disturbed water connections need checking and changed settings should be recorded. A single successful flush does not establish that a system which previously ran continuously will now stop and remain in its intended state.

Keep the model, parts and findings in the maintenance record. If only part of a multi-urinal arrangement was assessed, the handover should identify that limit. A later recurrence can then be compared with the previous sequence instead of generating repeated sensor replacements without evidence that detection was the original fault.
