Mixergy cylinder installation in London
A Mixergy installation needs the usual hot water system design plus a clear plan for its controls and connectivity. Loyal Plumbers assesses Mixergy cylinder projects across London and inside the M25. We start with your heat source, hot water usage and installation space so the selected product and commissioning scope match how the household will actually use it.

Mixergy describes selective top-down heating for its gas and electric arrangements, allowing the amount heated to respond to demand. Its heat-pump arrangement uses different heat-exchange equipment. Those distinctions matter: a feature described for one heating mode should not be assumed to operate identically with every source.
Ask for the complete product reference, intended heat source and relevant accessories. Treat claims about savings as conditional on the setup, usage and energy supply. Savings and payback depend on the selected system, household usage and energy costs; ask for the assumptions behind any estimate.
Specify today’s heat source and tomorrow’s plans
Tell us whether the cylinder will use direct electricity, a boiler, a heat pump or another supported arrangement. If a future change is likely, raise it before ordering. The model, interface equipment and installation plan need to support that intended use; a general claim of compatibility is not a complete design.
Ask the survey to distinguish equipment included now from components required later. This is particularly useful when a cylinder is being replaced ahead of a wider heating refurbishment. You can then make a conscious decision about present cost and future work rather than discovering that an assumed interface was never included.
Design capacity around your actual use
Smart controls do not remove the need for sufficient usable hot water. Explain the number and type of outlets, which are used together and how usage varies through the week. Consecutive showers, a large bath and occasional guests can put different demands on the system.
Ask why the proposed capacity is suitable and what assumptions underpin it. Do not apply a blanket downsizing percentage to your existing cylinder. If the current supply runs cold early, first distinguish limited capacity from a heating or control fault so the project solves the real problem.
Plan connectivity as part of installation
The manufacturer’s current guidance distinguishes controller versions and connection methods. Mixergy’s app features require an internet connection, while the cylinder also has local gauge controls. The installer should identify how the selected unit connects and what operation remains available during a connection interruption.
Discuss router position, any required cable route and who will complete network setup. Do not leave account access and controller handover until after the cupboard has been closed up. In a rented property, agree which account belongs to the resident or property operator and how it will transfer when occupants change.
Be specific about tariffs and solar expectations
If scheduling around a tariff or making use of solar generation is part of the objective, explain the arrangement to the installer. Features, compatible equipment and supplier services need checking for the selected model and current offer. The presence of a smart cylinder is not proof that a particular tariff integration is available to you.
Compare the proposal on the facilities you will actually use. A household primarily interested in reliable hot water may make a different choice from one actively managing several energy sources. Ask how ordinary controls work before deciding that an app feature is essential to your installation.
Allow for unvented safety and working access
The cylinder still needs suitable supply, discharge arrangements, electrical connections and maintenance access. Space for the vessel alone may not be enough for interfaces and service clearances. Survey the full arrangement and the removal route for existing equipment before an installation date is fixed.
Unvented work requires appropriate competence and an applicable building-control route. Ask for the attending installer’s relevant unvented competence and experience with the selected product. Gas and electrical tasks also require the appropriate competence rather than being automatically covered by a cylinder installation description.
Agree commissioning, records and warranty details
Mixergy’s installation instructions require the commissioning configuration to match the heat source. Have the installer demonstrate the completed system and ordinary controls, and explain what to do if the app loses contact or hot water behaves unexpectedly. Do not change installer settings as a trial-and-error response.
Obtain the product-specific warranty terms, registration information and maintenance requirements. Cylinder and electronic component cover can differ, so do not assume the entire installation has one identical warranty. The proposal should separately define labour, removal, associated pipework and any excluded network or building work.
Request a Mixergy installation assessment
Loyal Plumbers has 10 active vans and operates 24/7 across all London boroughs and inside the M25. For a planned project, provide your postcode, current heat source, reason for changing the cylinder and any intended smart-control or solar use. We can establish the survey requirements and relevant installation scope.
Use the form for written details first. It does not accept image uploads; the team can request useful photographs by email after your enquiry. Take photographs only where access is safe.
Questions we get asked
- Will a Mixergy cylinder save a fixed amount on bills?
- Results depend on the heat source, tariff, usage and setup. Ask for assumptions behind any estimate and compare them with your household.
- Does it need the internet?
- Internet access supports the app and connected functions. Local controls are also provided; ask for the exact controller’s connection and offline behaviour to be demonstrated at handover.
- Can it work with a future heat pump?
- Potential compatibility should be checked against the selected model and required interface equipment. State the plan during the survey rather than assuming every configuration is already prepared.
